This simplifies network installations by reducing the need for additional power cables and outlets.

What is a PoE Network Switch?

A PoE Network Switch is designed to supply both data connectivity and electrical power over a single Ethernet cable to PoE-compatible devices. It works by embedding power within the standard Ethernet cables (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.) used for data transmission, providing a cleaner installation by reducing the number of cables and power sources needed.

How Does PoE Work?

• Power and Data Over One Cable: With PoE, a network cable (typically Ethernet) provides both data and electric power to devices like IP cameras, wireless access points, telephones, and smart devices.

• PoE Injector: If your switch does not support PoE, an injector can be added to insert power into the Ethernet cable for the connected device.

• Power Delivery Standards: PoE is defined by standards such as IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at, with IEEE 802.3bt (also known as PoE++ or Ultra PoE) supporting higher power levels.
