Night Vision Camera

What is a Night Vision Camera

A night vision camera is designed to capture images or video in low-light or complete darkness. It enhances visibility using one or more of the following technologies:

Types of Night Vision Technologies

1. IR (Infrared) Night Vision

  • How it works: Uses infrared LEDs to emit invisible light, which the camera detects.

  • Looks like: Black & white image (unless it adds false color)

  • Range: Depends on LED power — usually 10–50 meters for consumer cameras.

  • Example: Home security cameras, wildlife cams

2. Low-Light / Starlight Night Vision

  • How it works: Uses a highly sensitive sensor to amplify existing light (like moonlight or starlight).

  • Looks like: Clear color image in near-dark; turns to black & white in full darkness.

  • Example: Modern surveillance cams, body cams

3. Thermal Imaging

  • How it works: Detects heat instead of light.

  • Looks like: Color-coded heat signature image (red = hot, blue = cold)

  • Example: Military, search & rescue, industrial inspections

Common Use Cases

  1. Home Security – Detect intruders at night
  2. Wildlife Monitoring – Spot animals without disturbing them
  3. Police & Military – Tactical ops in darkness
  4. Drones – Night-time surveillance or search-and-rescue
  5. Film Making – Creepy night scenes or documentaries
